G1 Test Day: What to Bring and What to Expect

Walking into a DriveTest centre prepared makes test day a lot less stressful. Here's what to have ready.

Documents to bring

• Primary ID showing your legal name and date of birth
• Secondary ID if your primary doesn't show an Ontario address
• Payment method for any applicable fees

What happens at the centre

1. Front desk check-in and document verification
2. A basic vision screening
3. The computer-based knowledge test (rules of the road + road signs)
4. If you pass both sections, your G1 licence is issued the same day

Tips

• Arrive at least 15 minutes early
• Study road signs by shape and colour first — they're often the fastest points to lock in
• If English or French isn't your first language, ask about interpreter or translated test options
• You can rebook fairly quickly if you don't pass, but plan for wait times at busy centres
